What is DMARC?
DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) builds on SPF and DKIM to tell receiving mail servers what to do when an email fails authentication checks. It also provides reporting so you can see who is sending email on behalf of your domain.
DMARC policy levels
- p=none — Monitoring mode. No action taken on failing emails. Best for initial setup and data collection.
- p=quarantine — Failing emails are sent to spam/junk. A middle ground that protects without hard rejection.
- p=reject — Failing emails are rejected outright. Maximum protection — the goal for most domains.
